Northwest Territories

Film Rebate Program at 40% for scripted work and 30% for documentary; program pool doubled to $1M for 2025–26.

The Northwest Territories runs a genre-tiered rebate through its Department of Industry, Tourism and Investment, and doubled the program's budget for 2025–26 — a small pool, but a strong signal of intent for northern production.

Scripted film and television 40% of eligible NWT spend
Documentary 30% of eligible NWT spend
Music videos and commercials 20% of eligible NWT spend
Shipping support Up to 50% of additional shipping costs, capped at $30,000 per applicant
Program pool $1,000,000 for 2025–26
Administered by GNWT Industry, Tourism and Investment

The pool is finite and allocated within the fiscal year; early application matters.

The interprovincial angle

The documentary rate is the practical opening: northern subjects with southern-partnered documentary teams fit the program's scale, and the shipping support acknowledges the real cost barrier to bringing production north.

Rates verified against official program sources as of July 2026. Incentive parameters change with provincial budgets; confirm current terms with the administering body before financing decisions. All provincial incentives stack with the federal layer.

If you're producing in Northwest Territories, or looking for a partner there from another province or territory, we'd like to hear from you.
